Your own IPs on IBM Cloud
IBM Cloud has no single public BYOIP flow like the other big providers. Whether your block fits depends on the architecture, so we start with a review.
How your own IPs can fit
- VPC address prefixes. IBM Cloud VPC lets you bring public or private ranges as address prefixes and create subnets in them.
- NAT maps your addresses to IBM-assigned ranges where translation is acceptable.
- GRE tunnelling, optionally with IP aliasing, when the routing design allows one addressing scheme.
- Overlay designs for fully virtual environments.
Check reachability first
IBM notes that subnets outside private address space may not reach parts of the internet unless routing is set up for them, for example with a custom route using the Delegate-VPC action.
